Member of the Bristol County Medical Reserve Corps Collaborative Serving the Massachusetts Communities of Attleboro, Foxboro, Mansfield, North Attleboro, Norton, Plainville, Rehoboth, Seekonk The Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Surgeon General established the Medical Reserve Corps enabling community based, volunteer units to supplement existing community emergency response systems. Locally, The Bristol-Norfolk Medical Reserve Corps will provide each community with teams of knowledgeable, experienced health professionals and dedicated supporting volunteers. The MRC Corps will be educated and trained to respond to any major community disaster, whether man-made or natural, And promote public health education. The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) states that a disaster has occurred "When the destructive effects of natural or man-made forces overwhelm the ability of a given area or community to meet the demand for health care." The bold mission of the Bristol - Norfolk Medical Reserve Corps MINIMIZE CASUALTIES AND SAVE LIVES SURVIVAL IS PREPAREDNESS. PREPAREDNESS IS EDUCATION and TRAINING Every volunteer must know WHAT, HOW and WHEN To prepare for and respond to a disaster. This corps will also present educational programs to schools, faith-based and community organizations informing them how to prepare for and respond to disasters. WILL YOU VOLUNTEER? Service in the Medical Reserve Corps is voluntary and can be discontinued at any time. Possible service includes first aid, community education, screening for voluntary vaccination and medications in mass clinics and many other supports functions. Federal Volunteer Protection Act and Massachusetts Good Samaritan Laws law may provide enrolled - trained volunteers with liability protection during a declared state or local emergency.
